December 2007 - The Best Of Black Country Awards

Aspray Transport is proud to have capped a great year with another major achievement – an unprecedented four awards at the annual prestigious Best of the Black Country business event.

Aspray Transport was judged Best Company, best for Workforce Development and for Business Growth & Innovation, whilst our very own Managing Director Stuart Laight scored a personal triumph after picking up the title for Outstanding Business Achievement. On picking up the Business of the Year trophy, Stuart Laight said: “It is something you could not even dream about. It is a tribute to all our staff, each and every one of them, who have given so much support. It is a tough business to be in, and from humble beginnings we have become a large corporation but still maintaining that every individual is precious – the awards are for all of us. “I told everyone that we were just glad to be nominated, but to have won not just one but four awards is difficult to take in.” The awards success has come in a year that has seen Aspray Transport – employing 527 people on the road and at its headquarters in Willenhall – celebrate our quarter century and achieve a string of major business successes. In particular we are very proud of our record for Workforce Development. Earlier this year Aspray Transport witnessed our 100 th driver qualify with his LGV licence from the company's “in-house” training school. The school also maintained its impressive 90 per cent pass rate - double the national average.Aspray was able to demonstrate its commitment to business growth and innovation with abundant evidence of its expansion: developing its outer depots and adding substantially to its vehicle fleet. Next year will see Aspray Transport spend in excess of £2 million on new fleet vehicles alone. As an equal opportunities employer, Aspray Transport takes staff development seriously and its investment and training seems to be attracting many applicants who want to join this fast expanding company. June 2007 - Tom Cross Wins The Prestigious Driver Of The Year Award

During the month of October, Aspray Transport nominated Tom Cross as ‘Driver of the year 2007' – a very prestigious award that receives in excess of 1000 nominations from different companies.

The award sponsored by the Daily Mirror is the UK's first national competition to celebrate the skills and capabilities of commercial LGV drivers across the nation.

Tom had to undergo a series of assessments to test his driving skills and knowledge and has not only successfully passed the first three rounds, but also excelled in the final assessment. Tom was announced the winner of this award at an impressive awards ceremony in London.

Tom Cross joined Aspray Transport originally as a Warehouse Operative over 7 years ago. Through demonstrating quantities of enthusiasm, great skill, loyalty, flexibility and sheer hard work and commitment - Tom has progressed from C1 Multidrop (7.5t) delivery and Category C Bulk Multi Drop delivery to Class C+E Trunk driving . Tom is a model employee/driver and as a result the company are looking to continue progressing his career – to become a fully qualified LGV Instructor . Despite all challenges (many difficult) Tom always tries his best with a smile on his face. We are confident that he will continue to work his way up the ranks; he is a true success story for Aspray Transport's Training School.

Aspray Transport would like to congratulate Tom and the Training Department on receiving this honorable award.

Tom winning this award is a great achievement and we feel that others will be pleased for him and will in turn be inspired themselves to be considered for further Training and Development.

Anyone wishing to ‘follow in Tom's footsteps' would be encouraged to do so by applying to join our fast expanding company. We are always looking for quality individuals who are looking for a career within the industry who can be trained by our Training School so that they can develop within Aspray Transport as Tom Cross evidently has.

The Training School continues to be highly successful and has proved to attract applicants wishing to become a driver with Aspray Transport. Our Training School has seen Warehouse Operatives and 7.5t Drivers evolve into Class C Drivers / Class C Drivers become Class C+E Drivers and more.

The Training School can also boast a pass rate higher than 90% - which almost doubles the National average.

Anyone wishing to join us should go to the ‘Personnel Page' of the website and submit their application or alternatively call 01902 638208 .
