
The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be Britain’s largest peacetime logistical challenge.
The Olympic Games are the largest spectator event in the world, attracting over 8 million spectators to 37 venues across the country, of which 27 are in London. (Click here to view the venues) In addition, the athletes, officials, media and other members of the “Games family” number several hundred thousand individuals.
Starting just 2 weeks after the end of the Olympics, the Paralympic Games are now the 2nd largest event, drawing in excess of 2 million spectators.
Whilst the Games will undoubtedly be an exciting spectacle, they will inevitably cause disruption to normal patterns of travel and delivery due to the following:
· Spectators – Up
to 800,000 expected on the peak day;
· Parking and Local Traffic Management Zones around the venues;
· Increased Security measures;
· Road Events such as cycling and the marathon.
